Friday's loss in Norfolk was more than a game.
Virginia Tech acknowledged Sunday that locker room equipment were taken after the Hokies lost 20-17 to Old Dominion in their season opener.
Virginia Tech verified things were gone from the locker room after Friday's game against Old Dominion. "The university is working with law enforcement and Old Dominion University on the problem."
The Hokies fell again to ODU in Norfolk. 2018's Monarchs beat No. 13 Virginia Tech 49-35.
Interim University Police Chief Garrett Shelton said the lost goods were worth less than $8,000, not the $20,000 claimed online.
Shelton wouldn't say whether the things were left unattended.
"Certainly," he answered. "Everything's possible. It was there before the game. The game concluded without it. "Something occurred."
