Veteran MLB Pitcher Has 85 Games Suspended

Carlos Martinez, a right-hander, has formally consented to the MLB's 85-game, unpaid ban.

Martinez's ban is so severe because it appears that he broke the league's joint policy against domestic violence,  and child abuse.

The ban against Martinez goes into effect as of June 19.Martinez was suspended for 80 games earlier this year after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ibutamoren.

Martinez played in 16 games for the Cardinals last year. In 2022, he signed minor league contracts with the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox

Martinez played in St. Louis for nine years, compiling a 62-52 record, 3.74 ERA, and 927 strikeouts. He was recognised as an All-Star in 2015 and 2017.

Whether Martinez will be pursued by a team when his ban is complete is unknown.
