28 August, SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, BELGIAN Max Verstappen won Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix from 14th on the grid to move closer to a second straight F1 championship.
The Dutch driver, who was fastest in qualifying but fell owing to engine and gearbox penalties, defeated Sergio Perez by 17.8 seconds and recorded the best lap.
After starting first, Ferrari's Carlos Sainz finished third.
Verstappen seized the lead on lap 12 and won his seventh race of the season.
"It's been a weekend I couldn't fathom," said the 24-year-old following his second straight triumph at Spa. Last year's victory came after three laps splashing through the rain behind the safety car.
Verstappen didn't need to win again this season, but his 29th career triumph placed him 93 points ahead of Perez.
Charles Leclerc finished fifth on the road but was relegated to sixth following a pitlane speeding penalty.
