U.S. warns Putin of 'catastrophic' nuclear implications

As Russian President Vladimir Putin this week intensified the confrontation by calling up military reservists and seeking to annex occupied districts .

Washington has made it clear to Moscow just how stark a response it would have in the event of a nuclear attack, according to two top U.S. officials .

This comes as his mobilisation effort faces domestic backlash and Kyiv's forces press to make new gains after their stunning counteroffensive.


On Sunday's episode of NBC's "Meet the Press," national security advisor Jake Sullivan warned that if Russia used nuclear weapons.

When presenter Chuck Todd pressed Sullivan for details, Sullivan said, "In private channels we have explained out more detail precisely what that would imply."

It's worth noting that Secretary of State Antony Blinken used almost similar wording in an interview with CBS News' "60 Minutes."
