The tropical cyclone that AccuWeather has been monitoring for almost a week now poses a danger not just to Florida, but to the whole East Coast.
Over the western Caribbean Sea and the eastern Gulf of Mexico, Ian is forecast to swiftly build into a major hurricane over the first part of the next week.
Ian may bring torrential rain, severe winds, and coastal flooding to parts of Florida for many days.
The most severe effects are likely to be felt in Florida, particularly around where Ian makes landfall midweek.
However, the tropical effects of Ian may spread to additional states in the Southeast and the mid-Atlantic by the end of the week and into the weekend.
It's expected that the southern part of the state will see tropical storm-force winds on Thursday morning.
