Trey Lance will take the helm for the San Francisco 49ers to begin the 2022 season.
Some, though, think Kyle Shanahan will eventually switch back to Jimmy Garoppolo. Include Sean Payton, a former NFL head coach, in that category.
Perhaps he's correct. In his 2022 season debut, Lance struggled, completing only 13 of his 28 pass attempts for 164 yards and one interception against the Bears.
In contrast, Garoppolo has led the 49ers to two NFC Championship games in the past three seasons. He is a skilled winner.
Payton stated on FS1's "The Herd" that "I think there are seven or eight teams that we're going to see, not because of injury, we're going to see more than one quarterback play,"
as reported by NBC Sports Bay Area via NESN.com. Don't fool yourself; I believe we will see Garoppolo back in that starting lineup.
