Even while many expected Donovan Mitchell would wind up in New York, the Utah Jazz had other intentions.
New York Knicks did everything to obtain Donovan Mitchell. Their authorities were connected to him; he was a local boy.
They possessed picks, young players, and the salary cap. Sadly, that wasn't enough.
Danny Ainge and the Utah Jazz traded for Mitchell. Even though they received a good return, some say the Knicks could've done better.
It appears the Jazz never planned to move him to New York. NBA insider Ric Bucher says certain officials wouldn't trade him out of spite.
"Some Jazz execs were upset Mitchell wanted out and saw sending him to CLE as retribution," Bucher stated.
