Without a doubt, Duke running back Jaylen Coleman was fired up for his team's season-opening contest against Temple on Friday. That is something that one unhappy referee from that game can speak to.
Coleman accepted a handoff from Blue Devils quarterback Riley Leonard on the second play from scrimmage. Coleman escaped one tackler before sprinting into the wide field,
where he soon came face to face with a referee. Coleman must have reasoned that running over the referee would be the easiest way to get past him since that is exactly what he did to gain 20 yards.
Coleman's first two seasons at Duke have seen little action. In 2019, he only managed 15 carries for 42 yards.
Coleman has four carries for 22 yards in the opening frame of Friday's game against Temple. During one of those carries, he scored his first touchdown as a college player.
He added two more carries for a total of 10 yards to begin the second touchdown drive. Coleman is therefore making the most of his early 2022 playing time.
