Ukrainian army sergeant Andriana Arekhta said that drones flew from Crimea to target her special forces unit in the area around the city of Kherson .
Two tanks and their crews were killed when the drones managed to get past the troops' defences and dump explosives on their position.
Last week, Arekhta, a female Ukrainian soldier, visited Washington, D.C. to speak as part of a delegation.
To put it bluntly, "It's a major issue."
Russia has been using Iranian-made Shahed and Mohajer combat drones in larger numbers throughout Ukraine during the last week.
Some of them destroyed military installations including tanks and armoured vehicles, while others attacked civilian targets like the city of Odesa's port.
Ukraine's anti-aircraft troops shot down over a dozen drones in the Dnipropetrovsk area and Odesa, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in Friday's evening speech.
