Possible extreme origins for a new, mysterious deep-space radio burst

Radio bursts have been puzzling scientists for almost 15 years.

First from other galaxies and subsequently our own, due to their erratic repetition and lack of an obvious source.

Weren't they the result of two black holes smashing into one other?

Explosions caused by supernovae?

Theoretical neutron stars with very strong magnetic fields? Aliens?

At least some of these mysteries surrounding rapid radio bursts (FRBs) may be explained in two publications published this month.
