On Sunday, the Chicago Bears were called for an odd, uncommon infraction.

Whether it's offsides, a false start, or pass interference, the majority of NFL penalties are self-explanatory and reasonable.

However, the Chicago Bears were assessed a peculiar penalty during Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers that prevented them from kicking a field goal.

During the game, the grass was inundated with standing water due to the rain, which caused both teams to be a bit inventive in order to deal with the sopping wet playing conditions.

Unfortunately for Gill and the Bears, bringing a towel onto the field appears to be against the rules, thus he was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

NFL Insider Field Yates of ESPN tweeted on Sunday, "Bears holder Trenton Gill was just cited for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty

penalty for bringing a towel onto the field while trying to dry the kicking spot off before a field goal attempt."
