Nick Pivetta, a right-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, suffered a left leg contusion during his start on Friday against the Texas Rangers.
Before suffering the injury, Pivetta had finished three innings, allowed one run on four hits, struck out two batters, and walked two batters.
In the third inning, he was hurt while making a play in the field,
and he was replaced on the mound by Tyler Danish for the beginning of the fourth inning.
After the game on Friday, the Red Sox should be able to provide a better indication as to whether
not Pivetta will be able to make his next planned start, which is provisionally slated to take place against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.
