NFL's 71-year tradition is overdue.

The NFL will replace the Pro Bowl with skills events and flag football, the AP reports.

The 1951 full-contact display will be replaced. The Pro Bowl Games will include AFC and NFC players showing their football and non-football abilities over multiple days.

Peyton Manning and Omaha Productions will assist design and market event material. Manning, a 14-time Pro Bowl choice, will instruct flag football.

NFL official Peter O'Reilly told AP that the Pro Bowl is evolving. “We made the decision after last year's game based on internal talks, GM and coach input, and player feedback.

We believe it's time to shift away from conventional tackle football. We wanted to honour 88 NFL stars in a good, exciting, and competitive manner.

"Guys who had recently gone to the Pro Bowl said to preserve the week's structure and include a multi-day aspect. Players and clubs were largely enthusiastic."
