NFL Kicker Allegedly Cut After Sunday's Game

The third-year kicker Rodrigo Blankenship has been released by the Indianapolis Colts, who are making significant changes to their special teams unit.

In 2020, the Colts acquired Blankenship, a former All-SEC kicker from Georgia. He converted 32 of his first 37 field goal attempts.

In 2021, Blankenship's output somewhat decreased, hitting 11 of 14 field goals. Last Sunday against the Houston Texans, he kicked two field goals, but he missed a kick that would have won the game.

Clearly, the Colts believed that their kicker situation required a change.Tom Pelissero of NFL Network predicts that the Colts will add one or two kickers to their practise squad.

Josh Lambo and Matthew Wright, former kickers for the Jacksonville Jaguars, joined the Colts for a practise session this week. Maybe they'll join the team shortly and sign a contract.

This next Saturday, the Colts will play the Jaguars.Who will start kicking for the Colts in Week 2 is still unknown.
