NASCAR community responds to significant Daytona crash

The name Daytona International Speedway will always be associated with dangerous collisions that had devastating effects on the people involved.

We got another glimpse of how disastrous this course can be on Sunday.

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series travelled to Daytona for the Coke Zero Sugar 400. With only 23 laps left in the race, a terrible crash involving the majority of the drivers took place.

Although the exact cause of this massive pile-up is unknown, it appeared to be the result of Daniel Suarez losing control while competing with Denny Hamlin for the lead.

With the exception of Austin Dillon, who was in 16th place at the time of the crash, nearly everyone behind him was unable to flee the carnage in front.

To the surprise of everyone else, Dillon managed to navigate the wreck and emerge as the race's leader when the red flag was raised to force all drivers into the pit lane following the collision.
