Kyle Busch blows a motor at Darlington Raceway and leaves early.

Kyle Busch lost his engine while leading the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs opening race at Darlington Raceway on Sunday night, bringing out the yellow with less than 30 laps remaining.

Busch won the Cook Out Southern 500 and led 155 laps, which was a record for the event. Just a few laps before the yellow for Cody Ware's on-track problems at Lap 340,

his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr., who didn't make the playoffs, experienced an overheating problem.

When he was escorted to pit road with motor problems, Truex was also in the lead.

Busch was another playoff candidate who struggled on Sunday night, joining a lengthy line of others. Chase Elliott, the regular season champion,

collided in Turn 1 and was taken down by Chase Briscoe on Lap 113. Elliott finished 36th and last because his injuries were too serious for him to continue.
