Joe Mazzulla? Meet Boston's temporary coach following Ime Udoka's suspension.

The Celtics have a new coach before training camp.
Joe Mazzulla will be the Celtics' temporary head coach after Ime Udoka was banned for the 2022-2023 season for "club policy infractions."

Udoka had a consensual connection with a Celtics employee, a source said. Because of the topic's sensitivity, the individual requested anonymity.

Mazzulla, a Celtics assistant since 2019, will replace Udoka immediately. Boston won the Eastern Conference and lost the NBA Finals against the Warriors.

Johnston, Rhode Island-born Mazzulla is 34. Dan Mazzulla coached ladies basketball in their hometown of Johnston.

Mazzulla earned three state championships at Bishop Hendricken High School in Rhode Island and played four seasons at West Virginia University.

Mazzulla began his coaching career as an assistant for two seasons at NCAA Division II Glenville State University. Three seasons as Jerrod Calhoun's assistant at Fairmont State
