After 700 earthquakes struck the area around a supervolcano, the warning level was raised.
On September 20th, the Volcanic Alert Level (VAL) for Taup volcano, a supervolcano located under New Zealand's biggest lake.
Lake Taup, was raised from 0 to 1.
According to GeoNet, New Zealand's geological hazard service, level 1 implies little volcanic disturbance.
Approximately six miles above the magma chamber, in the North Island of New Zealand, is where you'll find Lake Taup.
