It Sounds Like the Violent Supervolcano Is Alive

Well and Getting Ready to Rumble Again

After 700 earthquakes struck the area around a supervolcano, the warning level was raised.

On September 20th, the Volcanic Alert Level (VAL) for Taup volcano, a supervolcano located under New Zealand's biggest lake.

Lake Taup, was raised from 0 to 1.

According to GeoNet, New Zealand's geological hazard service, level 1 implies little volcanic disturbance.

Approximately six miles above the magma chamber, in the North Island of New Zealand, is where you'll find Lake Taup.
