Incredibly simple elimination from the US Open for Coco Gauff

Serena Williams took centre stage during the opening week of the US Open, and for good reason. The 23-time Grand Slam winner's exit,

though, has brought focus back to a number of players who played outstanding tennis through the early rounds. Coco Gauff, an American, is one of them.

The French Open finalist faced Caroline Garcia of France in a nighttime match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

With a victory in the Cincinnati hard court warm-up tournament and a perfect first four rounds, the No. 17 seed has been on a tear.

It fell short of everyone's expectations for a challenging match, however, as Garcia defeated Gauff 6-3, 6-4 in a lopsided contest.

Garcia hasn't competed on Ashe this year, but Coco has played all of her matches on the show court, and she is without a doubt the crowd favourite.
