Rhode Island's representative, Jim Langevin, is a quadriplegic who uses a motorised wheelchair.

The Washington Post reports that airline employees warned him multiple times in the past month that his wheelchair was too fragile to fly with.

According to The Washington Post, Representative Jim Langevin had his wheelchair twice denied boarding in the span of a year due to airline staff's concerns .

According to The Post, when Rhode Island's quadriplegic congressman, Langevin, attempted to check in at Boston Logan International Airport last month.

Wheelchair batteries are exempt from regulations imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration and the International Air Transport Association.

The congressman also put the wheelchair's inventor on the phone to clarify that his chair was safe, The Post reported.
