Americans miss market crash

Wall Street is in the grips of a bear market, with the only bright spot being that the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: DJI), S&P 500 .

Although stock exchanges are crucial, they aren't the only financial marketplace that investors should consider.

Depending on one's holdings and level of personal financial exposure to international markets, this might be good or bad news for American investors and consumers.


It's no secret that the Japanese yen has been weak as of late, though; the current exchange rate for the dollar is at its highest level since 1998, at 146 yen.


Recent months have seen such a precipitous decline that for the first time in 24 years, Japan's central bank has interfered in the foreign currency market.


Both the Canadian dollar and the Australian dollar fell to 73.58 U.S. cents and 65.3 U.S. cents, respectively.
