Houston Baptist University announced on Wednesday that its name will change with immediate effect.
Houston Christian University will now be the name of the university, whose Division I FCS football team competes there.
Prior to becoming Houston Baptist University in 1974, the institution was known as Houston Baptist College.
HCU won't start donning the new jerseys until the present ones are replaced.
According to the Houston Chronicle, school president Robert B. Sloan stated in a statement that HCU "better appropriately embodies our student body and reflects the professors, staff, alumni,
and community we serve." "We are dedicated to becoming an uniquely Christian institution that welcomes all Christians to take advantage of our top-notch academic offerings.
