Between I-110 and Park Boulevard, 21-year-old Allison Rice was discovered dead inside her car,
the Baton Rouge Police Department said local news station WBRZ. Shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday, her automobile was discovered covered with gunshots.
Authorities think she was shot several times while returning from a gathering with friends and waited for a train to pass at a railroad crossing, according to WAFB.
While law enforcement continues to look into the event, a reason for the attack has not been made public.
Earlier than the bullets were fired, a witness informed WBRZ that he heard a train. It's unclear if she was the target of the attack or if it happened at random.
Floyd Norman told the newspaper, "[A tragic shooting] is not uncommon... someone stole an ice box... so much goes on out here."
