Two persons who prefer to remain anonymous have claimed a $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot, taking a lump sum payment of $780.5 million, lottery officials announced Wednesday.
The Illinois Lottery claimed the winners must be "over the moon" with their Mega Millions prize. 16 states allow winners to stay nameless, including Illinois.
Lottery officials said the two have spent the last several weeks working with legal and financial professionals to assist the claim process.
Harold Mays, director of the Illinois Lottery, said the winners are in a fortunate situation.
No one matched all six numbers since April 15. No jackpot winner in 29 drawings
Since nobody has won the Mega Millions jackpot since July 29, it's currently $301 million.
