14-year-old charged with murder in the playground slaying of a Philadelphia employee

Officials from the city of Philadelphia have confirmed that a 14-year-old kid has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a lady at the playground where she worked.

According to Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, the adolescent was charged with murder and other counts in connection with the killing of Parks

and Recreation staffer Tiffany Fletcher on Friday at the Mill Creek Recreation Center in West Philadelphia.

The 14-year-old is being prosecuted as an adult, according to District Attorney Larry Krasner, but authorities withheld the boy's name from reporters on Monday.

CNN has contacted the Defender Association of Philadelphia to find out if they are the adolescent's legal counsel.

Officers heard several gunshots on Friday at 1:30 p.m., according to Outlaw. when they arrived on the scene, they could see individuals leaving the playground racing toward the leisure centre.
